What is an intraoral scanner?
An advanced tool used in dentistry to capture detailed digital images of the inside of the patient’s mouth.
The device is small and easy to handle: it goes into the mouth and scans the teeth and gums, producing 3D images shown in real time on a monitor.
It replaces traditional dental impressions, which often meant impression materials that were uncomfortable for the patient.
With this device we get precise, detailed images of the patient’s teeth in a far more comfortable and faster way.
We use it to plan orthodontic treatment, to make prostheses such as crowns and bridges, and in implant procedures.
One of its key advantages is that it improves the patient’s experience, being faster and more comfortable than traditional methods, and it also makes planning and carrying out treatment more precise.
And being digital, it makes the patient’s data easy to store and share, which helps when several clinicians work on a case together.
What we use the intraoral scanner for
These are some of the uses we give the scanner at our clinic in Alicante
Orthodontics
An essential tool in modern orthodontics. It gives us precise images of your teeth and bite, which makes it easier to plan and design personalised treatment, whether braces or clear aligners.
Dental prostheses
Used to design crowns, bridges and veneers. By capturing your teeth in precise detail, the scanner makes sure the prosthesis fits your mouth properly, in both function and appearance.
Dental implants
It gives detailed images of your jaw and teeth, helping plan implant placement with exceptional precision for safer, more effective results.
Diagnosis
Useful for detailed diagnosis and for monitoring a range of dental conditions. It shows decay, wear and other problems clearly, so they are caught early and treated effectively.
What happens during a scan
Scanning
We use the scanner to capture digital images of your teeth and gums. It is quick and non-invasive, and you should not feel any discomfort.
Image processing
The images are processed in real time into a digital 3D model of your mouth, shown on a monitor so both you and we can see it.
Planning
We go through the 3D images with you and use them to plan your treatment: orthodontics, implants, prostheses or whatever your case needs.
Design and manufacture
If you need appliances such as aligners or crowns, the scanner’s digital images are used to design them. The designs go to a laboratory where the custom appliances are made.
Follow-up
At follow-up appointments we can scan again to monitor your progress and adjust the treatment if needed.
