What are braces?

Braces are made of small brackets, usually metal, though they can also be ceramic or clear plastic, bonded to each tooth.

They anchor the archwires, which are what apply the force that moves the teeth into the right position.

Braces correct bite problems and crowding, and can also help with problems of the jaw joint.

We offer everything from traditional metal braces to more discreet options such as clear or invisible braces.

The advantages of braces

Cheaper than invisible braces.

Customisable: you can choose the colour of the bands and the bracket material to make them more discreet.

A better-looking smile: they straighten your teeth for a more even, attractive smile.

Up-to-date technology: with software such as our iTero scanner we can map the movements and show you the end result before starting.

Braces or invisible braces?

There are clear differences between the two. Which one suits you depends on what matters most to you.

Brackets

Available in visible and invisible versions.
The wires and metal parts can rub against cheeks and gums.
They need more careful cleaning and make flossing and brushing harder.
They work regardless of the patient’s discipline, because they cannot be taken out.
Regular appointments are needed to adjust the wires and brackets.
There are foods you have to avoid so they do not get damaged.
Cheaper treatment.

Invisible braces

Almost invisible, made of clear material.
More comfortable, with no wires or parts to rub, and removable for eating and cleaning.
Easier to keep clean because they come out, which is better for your mouth.
They need real commitment from the patient to wear them long enough each day.
You change the aligners at home every one or two weeks, with occasional visits to the clinic.
No food restrictions.
More expensive treatment.

What types of braces do we fit?

The range of braces available lets us match the treatment to what each person needs and prefers.

Metal braces

Usually made of stainless steel, they are hard-wearing and effective for a wide range of bite problems. They are more visible than the other options.
They also let you choose the colour of the bands to your taste.

Ceramic braces

Los ceramic braces are the most common after metal ones. They work the same way but blend in with the natural colour of the teeth.

The sapphire ones are known for being clear and strong, blending with the tooth. They are the most discreet, but also very fragile.

The Porcelain ones, on the other hand, are just as discreet. They are also stronger than sapphire.

Self-ligating braces

No bands needed. They can be metal or ceramic, and have a mechanism that lets the archwire adjust itself. This means fewer visits to the orthodontist, and the treatment can be quicker and more comfortable.

Lingual braces

Also known as invisible braces. They are fitted on the inside of the teeth, making them completely invisible from the outside. An excellent option if you want something genuinely discreet. They may need a short adjustment period for comfort and speech.

How treatment with braces works

Free first visit

Your first visit to our clinic in Alicante is completely free. We look at what you need and what you expect, and tell you whether braces are the right option for you.

Full assessment

We use advanced technology to capture detailed images of your teeth and jaw, so the treatment plan is precise and built around you.

Your treatment plan

The plan sets out each stage and gives you a clear picture of the expected result. The aim is to match what you expect with the most effective treatment for your case.

Fitting the braces

Fitting is meticulous but not invasive, and we explain everything you need to know about looking after them during treatment. Metal, ceramic, self-ligating or another type: the braces are chosen to suit your needs and preferences.

Check-ups and adjustments

You arrange regular visits with the orthodontist for the adjustments your treatment needs.

Finishing the treatment

Once your teeth are properly aligned and we have reached the goals of the treatment, the braces come off.

Retainers afterwards

Depending on your case the retainers may be removable or fixed, and we show you how to use them so the result lasts.
